My Nationality is a Right for Me and My Family Campaign participates in the sit in to support the endorsement of the domestic violence protection bill on April 1st 2013
My Nationality is a Right for me and My Family Campaign took part in the sit in organized by Kafa and the National Coalition to Protect Women from Domestic Violence. The event was held last Tuesday April 1st at 10:30 in order to support the legislation to protect women from domestic violence. The sit in called on parliament to endorse the bill to protect women from domestic violence lest women withdraw their voices during the next elections. Blue and red thumbprints were used to signify voting for parliamentary elections and otherwise withholding the vote with the red color symbolizing the blood of the wives and mothers victims of domestic violence. The sit in was held whilst parliament was in session and tens of participants from civil society gathered at the Gibran garden facing ESCWA. The Nationality Campaign participated in solidarity with the Coalition whilst hoping that this will be the first step to address all forms of legal and moral violence against women who are denied the right to transmit citizenship.
