In Lebanon, even garbage collection is subjected to confessional apportioning!

In Lebanon, garbage collection is at the center of political bickering and confessional polarisation in the context of policies that are largely short-sighted. With the deadline for the closure of the Naameh – Ain Darfil rubbish dump nearing, as well as the coming to end of the Averda Group (Sukleen and Sukomi) contract, which regulates the treatment of household solid waste, Lebanon seems now at the verge of an environmental crisis.

The Collective for Research and Training on Development – Action (CRTD.A), organized on 25 and 26 of November, 2014, at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), Beirut, the second phase of the first part of the Capacity Building Cycle (CBC) which it is implementing the framework of RUWOMED project entitled: “Supporting and connecting rural women’s traditional know how in the Mediterranean through the promotion of fair trade products”. The RUWOMED project is a regional initiative implemented by CRTD.A in Lebanon, PARC in Palestine and ACCP in Spain. RUWOMED is funded by the EU and ENPI.

The current food safety campaign: brouhaha with no serious outcomes

The present campaign launched by the Minister of Health, Wa2el Abou Faoor, to combat food corruption in bakeries, butcheries and food stores uncovered, yet again, the level of disorientation and weakness of public institutions and their limited capacity to address such a vital issue for citizens.
Abou Faoor’s revelations of the names of institutions in violation of the law stirred vibrant and divergent reactions, both on official and economic levels, while receiving warm welcome and support from the public.

Communication for Change - Leadership workshop (part one) for the Nationality Campaign || 18 & 19 November 2014

CRTD.A organized in support of the Nationality Campaign, the first part of a series of workshops entitled "Communication for Change". The event was held on November 18 and 19 at the CRTD.A premises and was attended by the 12 members of the Nationality Campaign Steering Committee. During these two days, and using exercises and various other tools, participants sought to improve their communication skills so as to be able to communicate clearly and convincingly as well as craft compelling messages adapted to different audiences. The training was based on the WLP Multi-Media Training Pack.

The violation of public property in Lebanon goes on unabated in the absence of a formal law which would protect public property and ensure that they are equally accessible to all citizens. Alas, public property in Lebanon clearly continues to be hijacked by politicians who are entrusted to protect it.

A second Leadership Workshop for teen girls and boys completed on 16 and 17 September 2014

CRTD.A organised the second part of the Leadership Workshop for young women and men. The event was organised at the CRTD.A premises with 8 young women and men all of whom are children of women active and concerned in the Nationality Campaign. The workshop was based on the WLP Leadership for Youth manual developed by the WLP partner in Bahrain, Bahrain Women Association. The two days sought to build the capacities of the young participants through exercises on developing a joint vision, building alliances, learning from differences, and creativity in finding solutions and laternatives.

CRTD.A organized a two days Leading to Choices Leadership workshop for the benefit of eight young women and men whose mothers are members in the Nationality Campaign. The training is planned in two phases. The first phase was concluded on the 26th and 27th of August and sought to build the youth capacity on leadership skills, communication, creating a vision, designing a campaign and setting up an action plan. The training used the WLP “Yes, I can” manual developed by the Women Learning Partnership.
