CRTD.A Launches its Women Economic Empowerment Portal

Thu, 07/26/2012

The Women Economic Empowerment Program (WEEP) of the Collective for Research and Training Development – Action (CRTD.A) is proud to announce the launch of its WEEPortal (http://www.weeportal-lb.org). This new portal specializes in women’s economic rights, entitlements,and economic participation and is guided by a conceptual understanding of women’s economic empowerment as the right to have a voice, the right to participate, the right to organize, the right to decide, the right to be recognized as an economic actor and decision-maker as well as the recognition of all forms of women’s work including unpaid, invisible and household work. As such, the state and other social institutions are identified as duty bearers that are accountable to women as full-fledged citizens.

The WEEPortal is thus devoted to the dissemination of various forms of resources, information, analysis, news, updates, materials, and links related to women’s economic rights, participation, and empowerment and covers Lebanon, the Arab region as well the international scene. The portal is available in both Arabic and English and seeks to act as a resource for practitioners, gender activists, women’s groups, researchers, and interested organizations and individuals.

The various sections of the portal include the following:
Latest news and developments: This section offers news, articles, as well as reports related to women’s social and economic right;
Calendar of activities: A space for all interested in upholding women’s economic rights to access information on upcoming events such as conferences, training, seminars, launches, and other related activities;
Our activities: In this space, we share with our visitors and readers information about CRTD.A’s initiatives and activities related to women’s economic rights and empowerment;
Resources and information: This section includes an electronic library of digital resources as well as access to CRTD.A’s publications, newsletters and bulletins…
The job market: This section is a space for women job seekers to post their CVs as well as for employers to announce vacancies. The uploaded CVs are also stored within CRTD.A’s Human Resources archives and CV holders are contacted whenever a job vacancy is available;
Information and consultation services: This service targets women as well as groups and organisations and seeks to provide information, advice as well as answers to simple queries;
Namlieh: This section is still under construction and will offer a space to showcase the products of rural women cooperatives and which are exhibited at the Namlieh market access point across from the national museum.

The themes and topics include but are not limited to economics, social, political, civil rights and entitlements, the role of state and non-state actors and social institutions both at the local, regional and global levels.

For ease of use, the WEEPortal has an advanced search engine with multiple interactive features.

The WEEPortal was created within the framework of the Regional Economic Empowerment for Women Project (REEWP), funded and supported by CIDA and managed by Oxfam-Quebec. The Portal will be maintained and operated after the closure of the REEWP programme in 2013 and as the portal is an integral part of CRTD.A’s overall programme.

Readers, visitors and users of the WEEPortal are encouraged to get in touch with us and share views, insights, information and suggestions which will all be very welcome!
