1. GENDER:
Regional Training Workshop: “Gender, Citizenship and Governance” This workshop will take place in Beirut, Lebanon from the 7-26 November 2004. The Deadline for submission however is October 9th. Topics that will be discussed include “what is gender analysis and why are rights based approaches important in development in the Machreq/Maghreb region?”  “How Can we enhance women’s political effectiveness in countries of the Machreq/Maghreb region?” and many others. 2.   NGOs:
ECLAC-W.K. Kellogg Foundation Contest on Experiences in Social Innovation This is a contest that awards prizes for innovative projects whose main purpose is the welfare of disadvantaged communities and which create conditions for the development and strengthening of full participation by citizens.

1.   MACHREQ/MAGHREB:
ESCWA Produces Statistics Bulletins on CD-ROM.
ESCWA has produced its first two electronically distributed publications on CD-ROM: the Bulletin on Vital Statistics in the ESCWA Region (6th issue) and the Statistical Abstract of the ESCWA Region (23rd issue) on CD-ROM.  Both applications are available on the Intranet on the following address: http://intranet.escwa.org.lb/documents/main.asp  under “Reports and Studies”.

CSIS Report on Status of Iraq's Reconstruction.
CSIS has developed a new methodology for measuring reconstruction progress in post-conflict nations. “Using post-war Iraq as a case study, this new report discusses findings and recommendations for five different sectors: security, governance, economic opportunity”.

Iraq Reconstruction Weekly Update - Financial Summary

4.   GENDER:
Advancing Women’s Leadership. This is a training manual entitled “Advancing Women’s Leadership: Training of trainers Guide”. It is a new CEDPA manual designed to expand opportunities for women’s grassroots leadership. The manual encompasses topics such as appreciative enquiry and experiential learning.

ESCWA has published a study entitled “Towards Integrated Social Development Policies: A Conceptual Analysis”, which presents the ideological and conceptual background for the state of social policy from a historical perspective and over the last few years. “The study outlines the gradual development of the concept of a welfare state and the condition of social policies.
