What we need in Lebanon!
We are happy to share the following article about the new Chilean President, Dr. Michele Bachelet, who has just taken office in Chile and that is for her second time in her political career. Dr. Bachelet has recently stepped down as the first UNWomen Secretary General to resume her political work. In addition to her formidable journey as a Socialist militant, a member of opposition frequently imprisoned and tortured, a doctor working with the poor, and women activist, Dr. Bachelet is starting her new mandate with a strong commitment to equality and social justice which she views as conditions sine qua none for governance and for nation building. It is this kind of persona with a vision and commitment to equality and social justice that we long for in Lebanon and in other countries of the Arab region. Although this possibility may seem remote for the moment, we would like to share this article with you as we find it both inspiring, insightful and hopeful.
