CRTD.A || Invitation to a Research Sharing Seminar on Active Citizenship, Gender and Social Entitlements

Fri, 11/30/2012

Amidst growing political tensions in Lebanon and major transitions in the Arab region, the last two years have been interspersed with various calls and slogans by various civil society organizationsand political groups calling for a citizens’ state and the enjoyment of basic citizens’ economic and social rights.  Indeed, and over almost one and a half year, such actions became quite vocal in calling for an end to the confessional system but to no avail.

Such developments certainly call for a thorough and critical review of the framework of citizenship and social entitlements with a view to tease out a clear vision and definition for each as well as discuss the ways in which citizenship and social entitlements are intimately linked with the confessional system.  The confessional system is, in our view, a major obstacles which is blocking an effective understanding and practice of citizenship as well as an unfettered enjoyment of social entitlements.

In view of the above, the Collective for Research and Training on Development – Action is pleased to invite you to take part in a National workshop to exchange Knowledge on Active Citizenship and Social Entitlement.  This workshop is the culmination of the first phase of CRTD.A’s Active Citizenship and gendered Social Entitlement (ACGEN) programme which is a research and awareness raising initiative launched in 2004.

The workshop will share and discuss some of the key findings of the project during its first phase, identify knowledge gaps and provide a space for sharing, networking and collective thinking amongst activists especially on possible civil initiative aiming at transforming the current system.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday December 12th at the Young Women Christian Association from 9:00 am to 16:00 pm (including a lunch break).

Please find enclosed a draft programme, a concept note as well as a participation form.
